Who Picks Up Our Recycling?
Hernando County does not pick up your recycling. Curbside collection is provided by Coastal Waste & Recycling in all unincorporated areas of the county, which excludes the City of Brooksville.
City of Brooksville provides their own collection service. City residents can call (352) 540-3810 for questions about service within the City limits.
Hernando County citizens with trash service also have weekly curbside recycling collection included in their service.
Getting Started with Curbside Recycling
To get started with curbside recycling, you may either call Coastal Waste at (352) 540-6457 or sign up online to have your free bins delivered and determine your recycling pickup day.
Curbside recycling is collected with a two bin system where residents sort cardboard and paper in one bin and rigid plastic containers, aluminum and tin in a second bin. These bins are then picked up by our contractor and delivered to the Northwest Solid Waste Management Facility. The material is then further sorted and prepared for shipment to recycling materials processors.
Please note that our recycling program does not include glass or plastic bags.
Procedures for collection
- Sort your clean and dry recycling into two bins according to the table below.
- Place the bins curbside before 6 a.m. on your service day.
- If you have more recycling than will fit in the provided bins, additional containers of a like size and style can be used. Examples include a rectangular laundry basket or storage tote.
- Curbside recycling is a great opportunity to help yourself, your community and the environment.
- Remove the bins by the end of the service day.
