FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announces a stakeholder meeting to which all persons are invited.
DATE AND TIME: Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
PLACE: Hernando County Utilities Department Conference Room, 15365 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34613.
GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: To present and receive public comments on the project design plans and restoration goals for the Jenkins Creek Dredging and Shoreline Stabilization project. The goal of the project is to remove shoals, debris, woody material that currently restrict manatees from reaching warm-water springheads during winter months and stabilize the shoreline where necessary to eliminate bank erosion & sedimentation that can create manatee restrictions. Questions can be directed to, and a copy of the agenda may be obtained by contacting Anna Laws at (352) 460-7332 or by email at anna.laws@myfwc.com.
Pursuant to the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, any person requiring special accommodations to participate in this workshop/meeting is asked to advise the agency at least 5 days before the workshop/meeting by contacting: the ADA coordinator at (850)488-6411. Historic Port Authority
The Hernando County Port Authority consists of the five Board of County Commissioners of Hernando County. The Port Authority meets once a year.
Background:
At the February 23, 2021 regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, Ordinance 2021-01 was adopted to create the Hernando County Waterways Advisory Committee. This also transferred the Hernando County Port Authority's current membership to the Advisory Committee and delineated the Advisory Committee's powers and duties. The committee now serves in an advisory capacity to the Board. In that same action, the Board of County Commissioners also approved filing a local bill in the next legislative session to appoint the Board as the Port Authority's governing body.
Action:
Support a local bill to be filed designating the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners the governing body of the Hernando County Port Authority.
