Transit Development Plan (TDP)
The Transit Development Plan (TDP) outlines a county’s vision for public transportation over a 10-year period. Required by the Florida Department of Transportation, the TDP helps guide transit improvements, prioritize funding, and ensure that local transit services support long-range transportation goals. Each plan is updated every five years, with annual progress reports submitted in between.
About Transit Development Plans (TDPs)
The TDP serves several key purposes:
- Provides a 10-year strategic framework for building and improving public transportation.
- Defines public transit as transportation systems operating on land or water and open to the public
- Ensures transit planning aligns with:
- Local government comprehensive plans
- The Hernando/Citrus MPO’s Long-Range Transportation Plan
- The MPO’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
- Guides the types of projects—and their priority—that will be considered for funding.
- Requires a full update every five years, with annual progress reports during interim years.
The Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) oversees completion of the TDPs for both counties.
