Transportation Disadvantaged Program

The Transportation Disadvantaged Program provides essential transportation services for residents who are unable to drive or afford transportation due to disability, age, or income. This program ensures everyone in Hernando and Citrus counties can access vital destinations such as medical care, employment, and education.

What is the Transportation Disadvantaged Program?

The Transportation Disadvantaged Program is sponsored by the State of Florida Transportation Disadvantaged Trust Fund.

Its mission is to ensure the availability of efficient, cost-effective, and quality transportation services for individuals who are unable to transport themselves due to physical or mental disability, income limitations, age, or other qualifying conditions.

These services help residents access essential needs such as health care, employment, education, shopping, social activities, and other life-sustaining activities. The program also serves children who are handicapped, high-risk, or at-risk, as defined in Section 411.202, Florida Statutes.

MPO Responsibilities

The Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) serves as the designated planning agency for both Hernando County and Citrus County.

The MPO provides support to each county’s Local Coordinating Board (LCB) and assists with the preparation and annual updates of the Transportation Disadvantaged Service Plan (TDSP).
