Emergency Management Plans
Hernando County develops and maintains several key plans to strengthen community resilience, guide emergency preparedness, and reduce risks from natural and human-caused hazards.
Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS)
The Hernando County Local Mitigation Strategy outlines long-term efforts to reduce or eliminate risks from hazards such as floods, hurricanes, wildfires, and technological threats. Developed in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, this plan identifies vulnerabilities, prioritizes mitigation projects, and supports local eligibility for state and federal funding.
This report provides annual updates on the implementation of mitigation projects credited under the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System.
Emergency Power Plans
Emergency Power Plans describe how a facility will maintain safe, reliable power during outages caused by storms, system failures, or other emergencies. These plans identify backup power sources, outline how critical systems will stay operational, and ensure compliance with state safety requirements — helping protect residents, staff, and essential services when normal electrical power is disrupted.
