(Brooksville, FL) – In response to prolonged cold weather conditions, Hernando County Emergency Management, in partnership with the City of Brooksville, will extend operations of the Warming Center to provide warmth and comfort to those in need.

Operations at the Warming Center, located at the Enrichment Center at 800 John Gary Grubbs Blvd., Brooksville, FL 34601, have been extended through Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. The center has been operating nightly since Monday, January 26, 2026, and will continue to open each evening from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Important Information:

• The Warming Center will not include meals or cots.
• Pets are not accepted in the Warming Center.
• Hernando County Transit (TheBus) will provide transportation to and from the Warming Center. Each night, TheBus will pick up residents at 8:00 p.m. from the Walmart located at 7305 Broad St., Brooksville, FL 34601, and will return riders to the same location at 8:00 a.m. the following morning. TheBus will not operate on Sunday, February 1, 2026, and transportation services will not be available that day. Steps to Prepare for Cold Weather:

• Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures may result in hypothermia, particularly for individuals spending extended periods outdoors. Residents should remain indoors when possible, bring pets inside, and cover or relocate cold-sensitive plants. Pets should not be left outdoors during cold weather.
• Frost and freezing conditions may damage vegetation and plants and may cause exposed pipes to freeze. Residents with pools should consider running pool pumps overnight during freezing temperatures to help prevent damage.
• Residents are encouraged to monitor local media outlets or the National Weather Service at www.weather.gov/tbw/ for the most current weather information. The Emergency Operations Center is not activated at this time.
