(Brooksville, FL) – Hernando County Government transitioned from Republic Services to Coastal Waste & Recycling for garbage and recycling collection services. During this time, Hernando County’s Solid Waste and Recycling Department would like to inform residents of the following updates:

• • Service Start Date and Holiday Impacts: Coastal Waste & Recycling began providing collection services on Friday, January 2, 2026, immediately following the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The period after major holidays is traditionally one of the most challenging times for waste collection due to increased volumes of household garbage and recycling. As noted in previous holiday notices and press releases, collection services mayrun later than usual during the week following a holiday.
    
    
  • Addressing Missed Pickups and Schedule Confusion: Coastal Waste & Recycling and the Hernando County Government have received reports of missed pickups and confusion regarding collection schedules. Coastal Waste is actively addressing issues related to holiday-related overflow and the service transition period. To support residents, Coastal has added additional staff to handle customer calls and the County has opened the landfill early to Coastal garbage trucks to allow for extended collection hours and more trips per day.   • Customer Call Volume: Coastal Waste & Recycling asks residents to refrain from calling multiple times, as repeat calls contribute to congestion and longer wait times. Residents are also encouraged to delay non-essential requests, such as cart size exchanges or repairs/replacements of usable carts or bins with minor damage, for a few weeks. This will help reduce call volume and allow urgent concerns to be addressed more quickly.
