Hernando County Board of County Commissioners Confirms New Utilities Director
(Brooksville, FL) – At the March 24, 2026, Board of County Commissioners Meeting, Brad Smith was confirmed as the new Utilities Director. Brad previously served as Interim Director and has now been promoted to the permanent role.
A sixth-generation Brooksville native, Brad brings a deep-rooted pride and commitment to the community he has always called home. Over the past 23 years, he has built an impressive career in the utilities field, beginning as a meter reader and advancing through numerous positions within the department. His journey reflects a strong work ethic, handson expertise, and a leadership style that has earned him the respect of colleagues. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Brad is devoted to his family and enjoys Florida’s outdoor lifestyle. This year marks 22 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, Beverly. Together, they have built a life centered on love, support, and shared experiences. He is also a proud father to his daughter, Braylee, who remains a central part of his life.
Brad’s promotion to Director of Utilities is a testament to both his professional accomplishments and his unwavering commitment to public service. In his new role, he will continue working to enhance utility services and support the needs of Hernando County residents.
