  • Designs Transportation Improvements
  • Manages Major Roadway Project Design and Construction Contracts
  • Provides Construction Inspections
  • Oversees long-range space planning, construction, renovations, upgrades, maintenance and repairs of government buildings
  • Prepares specifications and bid documents
  • FDOT & SWFWMD Coordination / Permitting & Maintenance
  • Plans, organizes and secures resources to successfully complete specific project goals and objectives while honoring the preconceived project constraints – scope, time and budget

Development Review

  • Reviews Land Use Petitions for land use hearings
  • Reviews commercial permit applications for compliance with Facility Design Guidelines
  • Reviews commercial and residential subdivision applications for consistency with Facility Design Guidelines
  • Provides feedback to developers and consulting engineering firms
  • Provides technical assistance to in-house staff and other departments regarding transportation studies relating to development proposals
  • Assists in the preparation and review of land development regulations as they relate to transportation issues

Traffic Engineering

The purpose of Traffic Engineering is to review, warrant, and design all traffic control devices (signs, signals, school flashers, roadway markings) in accordance with all federal, state, and local standards. Our goal is to provide optimal traffic safety and operational treatment(s) in a cost-effective manner ensuring the safety and well-being of the traveling public.

Prior to the installation or placement of any traffic signals, roadway signs, roadway markings, etc., the Traffic Engineering Department performs detailed studies and analyses before a final determination is made with regard to any type of traffic control device.

Staff operates the signal system and timings, school beacons, performs traffic investigations for signage and pavement markings placement, stop sign placement, speed limits, school zones and safety concerns. Traffic Engineering is active in project design and review of Capital Improvement, Development and State Highway projects. Traffic access analysis reviews and reports are conducted and reviewed by staff.

Our work is guided by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and the Institute of Traffic Engineers (ITE).
