Benefits
Hernando County offers a comprehensive benefits package and provides group insurance benefits to eligible employees. The Employee Benefit Highlights Booklet provides a general summary of the benefit options as a convenient reference. Please refer to Hernando County policies and/or certificates of coverage for detailed descriptions of all available employee benefit programs and stipulations therein.
Employee Benefit Enrollment Services
Hernando County Employee Benefit Enrollment Services are provided by BenTek.
Employees can access the BenTek website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to review benefit selections and make changes during the open enrollment period.
Benefit eligible employees will be automatically enrolled in the following core coverage's:
- Basic Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance: $10,000 Benefit (Provided by Hartford Life)
- Employee Assistance Program
- Long Term Disability Insurance (Provided by The Hartford)
Supplemental Benefits
Employees may choose from additional benefit options, including flexible spending and health savings accounts, as well as prepaid legal service plans.

Expanded Insurance Options
Employees may elect from a range of optional insurance plans to supplement standard health coverage, including dental, vision, life, and disability insurance options. These benefits provide added financial protection for employees and their eligible dependents.
The County offers vision insurance provided by EyeMed and VSP Vision Care.
The County offers supplemental life insurance provided by the The Hartford.
- Benefit amount can be elected in increments of $10,000 to a maximum of $190,000
- Benefit election cannot exceed 6 times your annual salary
The County offers dependent life insurance provided by The Hartford. Benefit eligible employees can elect dependent life insurance for their spouse and / or child(ren) for $2,500 or $5.000. Dependent Life Insurance may also be elected in the amount of $10,000 if your total Basic Life / AD&D and Supplemental Life / AD&D benefit amount equals $20,000 or greater.
Short Term Disability Insurance
The County offers two options for short term disability insurance provided by Hartford.
- Option 1: 29 day wait period
- Option 2: 14 day wait period for sickness, 7 day wait period for injury
