The mission of Hernando County Fire Rescue , is to provide proficient and cost  effective fire prevention, fire suppression, pre-hospital emergency medical basic life support , non-transport and transport advance life support services, and hazardous materials response within the 419 square mile fire service area, and within the 433 square mile emergency medical services (EMS) service area.

Hernando County Fire Rescue has responded to 11,424 emergency calls in the past year, helping to prevent the unnecessary loss of life and minimize property destruction due to the effects of fires, sickness, trauma and injuries from natural and man made accidents, illness, disasters, and other emergencies.
