FREE Drop Off for Residents

Hernando County residents who live in a home and pay the solid waste assessment through annual property taxes are eligible to drop off up to 2,000 pounds per year of accepted items for FREE at any of the three locations. Call (352) 754-4112 to determine eligibility.

Proof of Residency

One of the following forms of proof of residency must be shown when using any of our facilities:

  • Drivers license with current Hernando County address
  • Out-of-county drivers license with some form of current residency ID (TRIM notice, utility bill, deed)
  • Solid Waste issued barcode hang tag
    • Barcode hang tags can be obtained at any location when you present your drivers license as proof of residency or tax bill as proof of solid waste assessment

Northwest Waste Management Facility (Main Landfill):

Residents with larger quantities or those who do not pay the solid waste assessment and commercial businesses may drop off only at the Northwest Waste Management Facility where the appropriate tipping fee will be charged for the type of material being disposed. Materials accepted at the Northwest Waste Management Facility differ from materials accepted at Residential Convenience Centers.

Residential Convenience Centers

Convenience Centers are for residential use by those who pay the solid waste assessment. Additionally there are limits as to the size of loads, type of material and number of visits allowed.

Rules & Limitations

  • Trailer & Truck Size Limits – trailers must be less than 5’ x 10’ x 2’. No over-sized vehicles (dump trucks, large moving vans)
  • Excessive Sized Loads - the sum of all debris shall not exceed 100 cubic feet. Certain items such as couches, cabinets, tables, etc. may exceed the two-foot trailer height. In these situations, the items must be placed in trailers/trucks in such a manner that the height of the object is at its minimum
  • Large Loose Loads – to reduce unload times and traffic congestion, residents that have small loads (equivalent to 3-4 recycle bins) of smaller loose items must have them containerized/bundled. All loads of loose debris (loose raw garbage, tile, drywall, shingles, etc) and all larger loads (equivalent to more than half of a small pick-up bed), of loose and/or containerized debris must use the Northwest Solid Waste Facility. Due to the weight of tile, concrete, shingles and other heavy materials, their quantities may be limited in order to comply with the requirements for transferring the dump box to the landfill. Typically heavy items in excess of 10 cubic feet will be required to go to the Northwest Solid Waste Facility
  • Frequency of Visits – to provide service to a large number of customers, residents are allowed two visits per day
  • Yard Waste – all items need to be less than 8” in diameter and less than 10’ in length
