Animal Services (HCAS)

  • The Hernando County Animal Services (HCAS) shelter, located at 19450 Oliver Street in Brooksville, will reopen to the public with limitations beginning June 2, 2020.
  • Services will be provided with the following operational adjustments:
  • Residents are encouraged to obtain County animal licenses online or via mail through PetData. Visit https://www.petdata.com/for-pet-owners/hrn/license-online for more information.
  • Adoptions will be by appointment only once an adoption application has been approved. Call HCAS at (352) 796-5062 to schedule your adoption appointment
  • Adoption applications can be found at: https://www.hernandocounty.us/home/showdocument?id=22 and sent via email to AC@HernandoCounty.us or fax to (352) 796-3746
  • Access to the kennel area for viewing animals for adoption will be granted to citizens only upon completion and approval of an application.
  • Return to owner transactions will be by appointment only. Call HCAS at (352) 796-5062 to schedule your appointment
  • Initial viewing of animals available for adoption by the public can be done by visiting www.Facebook.com/HernandoCountyAnimalServices
  • Approved online application submissions and subsequent appointments will take priority over walk in customers
  • Lobby and kennel access will be limited to maintain appropriate social distancing and adhere to CDC guidelines


Building Division

  • The Hernando County Building and Zoning Division offices, located at 789 Providence Street in Brooksville, is now open to the public for drop-off, pick-up and by appointment only.
  • To reduce risk to the public and staff, it is still encouraged for Building Division customers to utilize online services available at https://www.hernandocountygis-fl.us/BldgDept/ however, should you need to visit the office:

    • Customers are encouraged to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for social distancing when visiting the lobby
    • In-person appointments can be scheduled with a Permit Technician by calling (352) 754-4050
    • Applications and forms will be available in the lobby
    • A permit drop-off area will be available in the lobby for submittal of permit applications, revisions, resubmittals and other documents
    • Permit pick-ups can be scheduled over the phone by contacting a Permit Technician at (352) 754-4050
    • Inspections can be scheduled online at https://bit.ly/2IW5sB3 or by phone at (352) 754-4050
    • Contractors are encouraged to utilize the online system at https://bit.ly/2IW5sB3 to submit applications, documents and receive permits
    • All documents can be submitted electronically via email to BLDG@HernandoCounty.us or fax at (352) 754-4416. Customers will be contacted as soon as their documents are entered to ensure they are received


CareerSource Pasco Hernando

  • All offices are open by appointment only and continue to assist both employers and job seekers through remote operations.This assistance includes:
    • Registering for re-employment financial assistance and the CARES stimulus program
    • Providing guidance and information regarding valuable public assistance services to assist displaced workers
    • Helping employers and job seekers identify and fill critical positions
    • And many more essential services to sustain and rebuild our local economy

Cooperative Extension Service

  • The Hernando County UF/IFAS Extension office, located at 116110 Aviation Loop Drive in Brooksville, is not open to the public at this time. 
  • Classes and workshops are being offered virtually through the Hernando County Extension Facebook page and via online platforms.

Economic Development

  • The use of the common conference room at 15800 Flight Path Drive has been canceled.
  • For event cancellations, please refer to the event website.


Fire Department

  • The Fire Stations are closed to the public, but will continue to perform their duties to the citizens.

Health and Human Services

  • The Health and Human Services office, located at 621 W. Jefferson Street in Brooksville is not open to the public at this time
  • All programs and services, except homeless assessments will still be available. Face to face interviews will not be conducted

Housing Authority

  • The Housing Authority office, located at 621 W. Jefferson Street in Brooksville is not open to the public at this time
  • Applications for housing programs (Section 8 vouchers renewals, SHIP Down Payment Assistance, NSP rental housing and the TBRA Homeless Housing program) will still be processed as of 1:00 pm 3/19/2020


Library Services

  • In accordance with Executive Order (EO) Number 20-123, all branches of the Hernando County Public Library System will reopen to the public at 50 percent capacity beginning May 18, 2020 with limited hours of operation. Limited hours to the public will allow for enhanced cleaning and continued monitoring of social distancing accommodations.
  • All Library locations will be closed for two hours, mid-day (12 – 2 p.m.) to accommodate for cleaning, shelving and other related tasks.
  • Computers will be set up for social distancing and computer time will be limited to 30 minutes per person, per day.
  • Limited hours of operation for each library location along with number of patrons allowed per facility at one time are listed below:
    • Brooksville/Main Library - 238 Howell Avenue in Brooksville
      • Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 – 6 p.m.
      • Number of patrons allowed at this facility at one time:44
    • West Hernando Library - 6335 Blackbird Avenue in Brooksville
      • Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 – 6 p.m.
      • Number of patrons allowed at this facility at one time: 64
    • Spring Hill Library - 9220 Spring Hill Drive
      •  Hours of Operation: Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 – 6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 – 5 p.m.
      • Number of patrons allowed at this facility at one time: 50
    • East Hernando Library - 6457 Windmere Road in Brooksville
      •  Hours of Operation: Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 – 6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 – 5 p.m.
      • Number of patrons allowed at this facility at one time: 40


Mosquito Control

  • All outreach classes have been canceled.
  • Per CDC guidance to implement social distancing into our procedures, please be aware of the following: If you have submitted a request for service, please do not make contact with our technicians when they arrive at your property. A tag will be hung on your residence’s door with any findings or recommendations found.


Parks and Recreation 

  • Beginning on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, all Hernando County park and beach locations, including Alfred McKethan/Pine Island Park and Rogers Park beach area, will be open to public use.
  • Residents are encouraged to follow the CDC guidelines and restrictions outlined below while visiting Hernando County park locations:
    • No organized sports, events or large gatherings will be permitted.
    • No rental of County buildings, pavilions, etc. will be permitted.
    • Visitors are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing.
  • Boat ramps and marinas will remain open for public use, so long as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for social distancing are followed.
  • As of May 23, 2020, youth sports leagues may resume activities utilizing Hernando County Parks and Recreation's Recommendations for Leagues Post COVID-19
  • All facility rentals have been suspended until further notice.
  • A modified 2020 summer camp program will be held beginning June 8, 2020. Registration is now available online at www.HernandoCounty.us/Parks_Rec
    • Registration forms may also be faxed, mailed or dropped-off to the Recreation Office, located at 16161 Flight Path Drive in Brooksville
  • Beach, parking or boat passes can be obtained online at the following link and sent via email recreation@hernandocounty.us or fax (352) 754-4427: https://www.hernandocounty.us/departments/departments-n-z/parks-and-recreation/passes

Planning

  • All in person meetings have been canceled.
  • The Hernando County Planning and Zoning Commission will resume public hearings beginning June 8, 2020
  •  As part of our commitment to the health of our customers and the public, we will utilize the following measures during public hearings:
  • In an effort to maintain customer service please feel free to communicate with the Planning Department by e-mail, telephone, conference call and go to meetings.
  • Land use applications should be submitted electronically in PDF version to the Planning Resource Object mailbox (Planning.ResourceObject@hernandocounty.us), fees will be calculated by the case planner and may be mailed or paid at a later date.  All applications will be routed to other departments and agencies for review, and the staff analysis will be completed in anticipation of scheduling for a future public hearing once the social distancing guidelines have been relaxed.


Property Appraiser

  • The Hernando County Property Appraiser’s offices, located at 201 Howell Ave., Suite 300 in Brooksville and 7525 Forest Oaks Blvd in Spring Hill, will reopen to the public with safety measures in place to help reduce risk to customers and staff beginning June 1, 2020

  • The customer service lobby will be open every day from 8 am. till 12 noon

  • Customers are encouraged to mail or email any documentation they are providing in an effort to keep attendance to a minimum and avoid long queues

  • It is recommended that customers follow CDC guidelines for social distancing when visiting the lobby as the number of people allowed into the lobby at any one time will be limited


Public Works 

  • Port Authority regular meeting scheduled for March 18, 2020 has been canceled
  • Port Authority regular meeting scheduled for April 15, 2020 has been canceled

Tax Collector

  • Beginning Monday, May 11, 2020, the Spring Hill Tax Collector's Office at the Westside Government Center, located at 7489 Forest Oaks Boulevard in Spring Hill, will reopen with restrictions. Office hours will be Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Restrictions:
    • Only customer(s) involved in the transaction may enter the office
    • Road tests are not being administered, at this time
    • Residents are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing and wear a mask when visiting the Spring Hill office location
  • The Main office, located at 20 N. Main Street in Brooksville, and the US 98 Office, located at 11319 Ponce De Leon Boulevard in Brooksville, both remain closed to the public, at this time.
  • Contact the Hernando County Tax Collector’s Office at (352) 754-4180 for additional information.


Tourism

  • Both Welcome Centers are closed. 
  • The Weeki Wachee Springs State Park has closed, including the gift shop which mandates that VIC is also closed. 
  • For event cancellations, please refer to the event website.


Transit Services (TheBus)

  • Fare collection has been suspended on all fixed routes and demand response service through May 31, 2020.
  • TheBus will temporarily reduce its service hours (including ADA service) to the following:
  • Hernando County Transit Services (TheBus) will resume regular service hours and reactivate fare collection on all fixed routes and demand response service beginning June 1, 2020.


Utilities (HCUD)

  • HCUD Customer Service Lobby, located at 15365 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville, will reopen to the public with safety measures in place to help reduce risk to customers and staff beginning June 1, 2020
  • It is recommended that customers follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for social distancing when visiting the lobby
  • Most HCUD services are available online at www.HernandoCounty.us/Utils or over the phone by calling (352) 754-4037


Veteran Services

  • Hernando County Veteran Services will reopen its office, located at 621 W. Jefferson Street in Brooksville, to the public on June 1, 2020 by appointment only. In order to prevent the spread of disease and keep our residents and staff safe during this time, the following policies will be implemented for the Veterans Services Office (VSO) until further notice:

    • For all in-person appointments, only the claimant will be allowed into the VSO unless an escort is required
    • The use of facial coverings is recommended when visiting the VSO
    • Individuals who appear ill will not be seen for their in-person appointment and will be instructed to phone-in at their scheduled time instead
    • Walk-ins will not be seen for any reason.
    • It is encouraged that all documents be mailed, emailed or faxed to the VSO
    • The VSO appointment schedule has been reformatted to accommodate for the continued use of phone-in appointments, mailed correspondence and in-person appointments
  • Transportation to the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital has been suspended until further notice
