I want to adopt an animal but can’t take him home right away. Can you hold the animal for me?
Unfortunately, we have limited space and therefore cannot hold animals.
If I adopt an animal, can I take him home the same day?
This depends; If the animal that you are adopting has already been neutered, microchipped and is current on his shots, then absolutely. If not, the animal will be held for you with your adoption deposit, and they will be placed on the schedule for the next surgery day.
What are hold times on animals and can I adopt before the hold time is up?
Because we want to make every attempt to reunite animals with their owners, all animals not under safekeeping will be placed on hold for 3 business days. After that time, they will be available for adoption. If you are interested in adopting an animal that is still on hold, you may submit an adoption application along with an adoption deposit. If the animal is not claimed during the hold time, your adoption deposit rolls over into the adoption fee.
What do I need to bring to the shelter if I plan on adopting a pet?
You must bring a photo ID (valid driver's license, state or federal ID) and, if you have other animals in the home, we will need proof that they are current on their Rabies Vaccination and have a current County License. Landlord approval is required if you are renting or leasing your home and the person adopting the animal must be over 18.
What form of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
What if I adopt an animal and it doesn’t work out? Can I return the animal and if so, do I get my adoption fee back?

Why are some animals in safekeeping and how come I am not able to see them?
Animals are brought to the shelter for safekeeping for a myriad of reasons. They have known owners and are therefore not our property. Our role is to provide them with a safe place to be housed until their situations can be resolved.
Why do you need my landlord’s approval if I want to adopt an animal?
Many rental properties have restrictions (breed, size, etc.) on animals. To ensure the well-being of the animal, we need to make sure that they are allowed so that they will not be returned and/or you will not be forced to move.
Why do you suggest a “Meet and Greet” when adopting a new dog when there is already a dog in the home?
The NUMBER ONE reason dogs are returned to the shelter is because they didn’t get along with the dog in the home. When you bring your dog to the shelter, we will conduct the introduction in a neutral setting to see if the animals get along prior to adoption.
