CURRENT SITUATION

The National Weather Service has issued a Hard Freeze Watch late Friday night, December 23, 2022, through Saturday, December 24, 2022, for Hernando, Citrus, Levy, Sumter, and inland Pasco Counties. There is also a Small Craft Advisory for all waters Friday morning through Saturday morning.

Widespread freezing temperatures are expected to affect our area for several hours overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Minimum temperature could reach 22° with possible minimum wind chill of 18.

**Temperatures are expected to be 15 to 25 degrees below normal**

Frigid weather conditions are expected to continue Saturday night into Sunday morning, and Sunday night into Monday morning.

COLD WEATHER SHELTER

Individuals that need to seek shelter from the cold may contact Jericho Road Ministries for assistance. Please keep in mind that space is limited.

Jericho Road Ministries is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and accepts donations all year long to support our vulnerable populations. At this time of year, cots, sleeping mats, and toiletries are in high demand.

STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO PREPARE FOR COLD WEATHER

  • Dress warmly in layers when going outdoors.
  • Consider the needs of pets during this time. Do not leave pets outside in the cold weather.
  • Cover or move plants that are sensitive to the cold temperatures.
  • Consider running pool pumps overnight during freezing temperatures to prevent damage.

    Residents are encouraged to monitor to local media outlets or the National Weather Service at http://www.srh.noaa.gov/tbw/ for current weather information. The EOC is not activated at this time.
