EVENT: Tropical Storm Nicole

CURRENT SITUATION

Tropical Storm Nicole’s center is 360 miles east-southeast of Sebring and is a Strong Tropical Storm with winds of 70 mph and moving west-southwest at 13 mph. Nicole’s track was moved slightly south which indicates stronger winds. Nicole is forecast to make landfall in southeast Florida tonight (Wednesday, November 9, 2022). Maximum sustained winds are forecast to be anywhere from 30 – 40 mph for Hernando County, with gusts to 65 mph overnight. There is a large wind field on the north side of the storm due to the northern high pressure. The current forecast for our area has 2”-4” possible for rainfall. Hernando County has also been placed in a Storm Surge Watch with a possible surge Thursday night (November 10, 2022) of 2 – 4 ft if Tropical Storm Nicole moves into the Gulf of Mexico. Earliest reasonable time of arrival for tropical storm force winds is 4 pm today (Wednesday, November 9, 2022). There is a potential for showers with gusty winds ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole. There is a potential for isolated flash flooding of urban areas, creeks, and low-lying areas.

WATCH, WARNINGS, ADVISORIES:
• A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Hernando County
• A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Hernando County

IMPACTS:
• Possible 2”-4” of rainfall for the current forecast. Tropical storm force winds in rain bands as the enter central and western Florida Wednesday afternoon and overnight.
• Wind forecast for possible maximum sustained winds at 30 – 40 mph with Tropical Storm wind gusts Wednesday and Thursday.
• Possible storm surge on Thursday of 2 – 4 feet if Nicole moves into the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday.

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS
• Clear debris from yard and surrounding your home, bring in outside furniture, and take precautions for high winds. Outdoor items and debris have the potential for damage during a storm.
