Apply now for upcoming CERT classes to train for disaster response
Hernando County Emergency Management is seeking volunteers over the age of 18 who are interested in joining the Hernando County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). CERT volunteers receive special training which enhances their ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from a disaster situation. As an organized team, they provide vital services in the absence of emergency responders whose arrival may be delayed due to the severity of the event.
The next training class will run seven consecutive Wednesday evenings:
February 26, 2020 – Disaster Preparedness, Team organization
March 4, 2020 – Disaster Fire Suppression
March 11, 2020 – Disaster Medical 1
March 18, 2020 – Disaster Medical 2
March 25, 2020 – Light Search and Rescue
April 1, 2020 – Disaster Psychology, Terrorism and CERT
April 8, 2020 – Disaster Drill
Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center located at 18900 Cortez Blvd., in Brooksville.
Previous emergency experience is not required. Training materials are provided free of charge. After successful completion of the training, participants may choose to join the Hernando County CERT Team (background check required).
