Preliminary revised coastal Flood Insurance Rate Maps issued for Hernando County
The Hernando County Zoning Department announces that the preliminary revised coastal Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for Hernando County have been issued. These preliminary FIRMs were developed through a partnership between the Hernando County community and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. They are based on updated modeling data and show coastal flood hazards more accurately than previously adopted maps.
Changes in the flood zones shown on the FIRM may affect whether flood insurance is required and the cost of flood insurance premiums once the final FIRMs have been adopted. However, the preliminary FIRM will not change your current flood insurance premium. Your premium will continue to be based on the official FIRM currently in effect for your community.
Paper copies of the preliminary maps may be viewed in person at the Zoning Department office, located at 789 Providence Boulevard in Brooksville, or digital copies may be emailed to you upon request. Contact the Zoning Department at (352) 754-4050 or ZoningDepartment@HernandoCounty.us to request copies or a digital comparison of your property on the current effective FIRM and the preliminary map.
As part of the FIRM adoption process, we have entered into the 90-day period, ending on January 15, 2020, in which any owner or lessee of real property in the community, who believes his or her property rights will be adversely affected by the proposed flood hazard determinations, may appeal the proposed changes with scientific and technical data.
