Notice of Housing Funds Available for Fiscal Year 2019-2020
State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Program
The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)—with funding provided through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Program—are providing incentives to encourage the rehabilitation, construction and sale of affordable housing in Hernando County. The housing assistance strategies funded by the BOCC for FY 2019-2020 are listed below.

All applications are on a first eligible, first serve basis. Funding for applications for FY 2019-2020 strategies will be available beginning November 1, 2019 and continue until all funding is committed. 1.) DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM STRATEGIES
FY 2018-2019 Construction $171,091.00
FY 2018-2019 Existing $ 54,843.00
If your total gross household income is less than $37,450 for a single person, $42,800 for two persons, $48,150 for three persons, $53,500 for four persons, $57,800 for five persons, $62,100 for six persons, $66,350 for seven persons and $70,650 for eight persons; you may be eligible to receive a down payment assistance loan for the purchase of a new home, an existing home, or an existing home in need of renovations.
If you qualify for this program, up to $10,000 may be loaned for the construction of a new home, up to $10,000 for the purchase of an existing home. For an existing home with construction renovations, up to $10,000 may be loaned towards the down payment and closing costs, and up to an additional $20,000 may be loaned towards the construction renovations.
Applications are taken by appointment from the Hernando County Housing Authority located at 621 West Jefferson Street Brooksville, FL 34601 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. The specific requirements of the program are available from the Housing Authority at (352) 754-4160 ext. 3.
2. SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSING
FY 2019-2020 $73,125.00
The Special Needs Housing program is to assist local non-profit sponsors in developing special needs housing for eligible clients through acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or new construction of suitable units. The maximum award is up to $75,000.00 through a deferred loan agreement with the County. Special needs groups shall generally include, “Persons Who Have Special Housing Needs” as defined in Rule 67-37.002(21), F.A.C. Such units shall be utilized by the subject non-profit sponsor to meet short or long-term housing needs of eligible persons. Eligible household gross income cannot exceed $23,450 for one person, $26,800 for two persons, $30,150 for three persons, $33,450 for four persons, $36,150 for five persons, $38,850 for six persons, $41,500 for seven persons and $44,200 for eight persons. Operational costs after initial acquisition shall be the responsibility of the sponsoring agency. 3. Non Profit Construction
FY 2019-2020 $30,000.00
The Non-Profit Construction strategy provides funds to area non-profit housing agencies and non-profit housing developers to partially underwrite the costs of constructing or rehabilitating affordable single- family homes. Applications for funding will be accepted beginning November 1, 2019 and continuing until all funding is committed.
