EOC Alert #7 - Hurricane Dorian

Status: Monitoring

Post Date:09/01/2019 9:37 AM

CURRENT SITUATION

Hurricane Dorian has continued to strengthen, and is now a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 160 mph. There is still uncertainty in the location of the expected northward turn, but confidence is growing in Dorian making the turn east of Florida. Portions of the east coast of Florida are now under a tropical storm warning.

It is important for residents to continue to watch future forecasts as additional shifts in the track are possible. However, the probabilities of significant impacts to the counties of west central and southwest Florida remain very low. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible in rain bands as they rotate through inland areas Tuesday. Also, expect above normal tides of 2 to 3 feet Tuesday night and Wednesday.

As there have been no significant changes to the forecasted impacts for our area the Emergency Operations Center has returned to Level 3 Monitoring. Hernando County Emergency Management will continue to actively monitor the situation. Unless conditions warrant, this will be the final alert from the EOC.
