The Public Information Office uses a multimedia approach to provide accurate, relevant and timely information to the public about Hernando County events, news, programs and services. If threatening weather situations and other types of public emergencies arise, the Public Information Office works together with the appropriate agencies to ensure that accurate and timely information is provided via our website, social media, Spectrum channel 644 and news media.
Self-serve sandbag site openings
In preparation for potential heavy rains due to Hurricane Dorian, a limited supply of sand and sandbags will be available starting today, Friday, August 30 from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations. Sandbag sites are self-serve only, please bring your own shovel.

Tips on how to properly fill and stack your sandbags
- Fill bags one-half to two-thirds of the way full
- Over-filled bags will result in a leaky sandbag wall
- Stack sandbags so that the seams between the bags are staggered
- Tuck the top of each bag under to ensure that that bag is sealed by its own weight
