Current Situation

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a system over central Georgia that is forecast to move into the northeast Gulf of Mexico in a couple of days. A tropical depression is likely to form near the northern Gulf coast by the end of the week. Currently, this system has an 80% chance of development within the next 5 days. This system has the potential to produce heavy rainfall along portions of the northern and eastern U.S. Gulf Coast later this week. 4 to 6 inches of rain is in the forecast for our area.

Recommended Actions

  • Residents living in low lying, flood prone areas are urged to closely monitor and take precautions as needed to protect life and property. Be prepared to evacuate to higher ground if necessary.
  • Do not drive through standing water. Turn around, don’t drown.
  • Mariners should note the potential for hazardous boating conditions in the Gulf of Mexico and monitor alerts from the National Weather Service.
