Tax Collector's Responsibilities and DutiesIn Florida, the elected county office of Tax Collector was established as an independent unit of government by the State Constitution of 1885 and hence are referred to as Constitutional Officers. The County Tax Collector is elected to a four-year term in presidential election years. The Tax Collector’s Office is responsible for providing a wide range of services to the citizens and taxpayers of Hernando County on behalf of other governmental units, including but not limited to; the Florida Department of Revenue, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners, the Hernando County School Board, and special taxing districts. These services consist primarily of the collection and administration of ad valorem taxes, non ad valorem assessments, motor vehicle and vessel registration and title fees, and hunting and fishing license fees. |
