Metropolitan Planning Organization 
The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is mandated by the Federal Highway Act of 1973 to provide a cooperative, comprehensive, and continuing transportation planning and decision-making process. The process encompasses all modes and covers both short-range and long-range transportation planning. MPO plans and programs are reviewed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
Each urban area in the United
States has a MPO which acts as a liaison between local communities,
their citizens, and the state departments of transportation (DOTs).
MPOs are important because they direct how and where available state
and federal dollars for transportation improvements will be spent.
The Hernando County
Planning Department provides staff services in support of the MPO program.
Ride
With the return of high gas prices, THE Bus announced today that it will
join with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in
the eighth annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 20, 2013. The
slogan of this year’s National Dump the Pump Day is “Dump the Pump. Save
Money. Ride Transit.”
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Hernando County Board of
County Commissioners (BOCC) approved a minor transit service
modification on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at their regular scheduled
BOCC meeting. The following minor modification to the transit
service operating hours was approved for implementation beginning
on Monday, June 3, 2013:
The updated maps, schedules, and brochures will be distributed
the week prior to service implementation. Any questions regarding
these changes or help with planning your trip should be directed
