The State Attorney represents the people in both capital and non-capital prosecutions for violation of state laws and related matters in state and federal courts.   The State Attorney is Chief Advisor to the grand jury; represents the public interest in all criminal matters and cases that affect the community safety, peace and welfare; and conducts and coordinates all criminal investigations with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies concerning violations of state law.  Other services include:

  • Check Diversion - A program to redeem  worthless checks after complaints are filed by giving the writer an   opportunity to make restitution
  • Consumer Complaints - A program handled under the "Little FTC (Federal Trade Commission) Act" to receive and act upon consumer complaints
  • Spouse Abuse Counseling - A counseling program for those accused of violence against his or her spouse in lieu of court proceedings.
  • Victim Witness Program - A program designed to assist victims of crimes through counseling and personal aid and to orient witnesses required to testify in criminal proceedings.
