A Hernando County Board of County Commissioners employment application is required in order to be considered for any position with Hernando County.

The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners provides The Job Line number (352) 754-4418 for all available positions. The job line is a recorded service that informs prospective applicants of any/all available positions with the Board of County Commissioners.
Applicants wishing to apply for a position that is currently posted can go to Career Central, Hernando County Public Libraries or Human Resources to apply.

  1. Create Your Application
    Begin by clicking on the Application Link. Click on Job Applicant Center and then Board of County Commissioners. Create your user name and password, complete your application and you're in! If you do not have all the information to complete your application, you have the option to edit at a later time.
  2. Search for Jobs
    What kind of job interests you? Click on the job title to see the entire job posting.
  3. Apply for Jobs
    Find a job that matches your qualifications. Click "Fill out Application" to apply right from the posting. If you have already saved an on-line application, you can select Application with loaded content; make any changes or updates, then "submit" the application. If you have not yet completed an on-line application, you may create one on the spot. You will be asked several questions, and if required, you will need to attach your résumé, cover letter or other documents in an electronic format. If you have begun applying for a position and realize you are not ready to attach your documents, you can return later by utilizing the "Exit Application" option. You will have five (5) days to complete the application.
  4. View/Edit Applications
    You may view and/or edit your existing applications to demonstrate your qualifications prior to applying for each specific job posting or you may complete a new application type.

    It is important that your application show the relevant education and experience you possess as it relates to the position for which you apply. Applications may be rejected if incomplete. Your invitation to be interviewed is based solely upon the written information you provide on the application and the required attachments. All applicants MUST submit a cover letter. If the posted position requires a college degree you must attach transcript(s). Copies/unofficial transcripts showing degree awarded, must be attached to your employment application. All degrees must be awarded by an accredited educational institution. If selected, official transcripts should be sent directly from the College/University to Human Resources.
    Your application will receive careful consideration, if selected for an interview; you will be contacted by telephone for an interview.

Pay for new employees typically starts at the bottom of the posted range, however consideration may be given depending on qualifications.

Hernando County Fire Rescue Application Process

The Hernando County Fire Rescue Department (HCFR) offers full testing services for the positions of Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic through National Testing Network, Inc. You must complete both the entry level test and CPAT test to be considered for employment. To schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com , select Fire and sign up for the HCFR Department.
What to expect at the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com  website:

  • Completion of the application process
  • Review all information related to the HCFR Department firefighter position, including minimum requirements, salary and benefits.
  • Detailed information about the testing process for both the entry level test and CPAT testing.
  • Opportunity to take online practice tests at www.fireteamtest.com .
  • Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered multiple times a week, including Saturdays.
  • Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment.

Upon completion of the entry level exam and CPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the HCFR Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry level exam and the physical abilities test will be placed on the department’s eligibility list. The HCFR Department will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the department selection process.
EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNTIL COMPLETION OF PASSING ENTRY LEVEL EXAM AND CPAT TESTING..
National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing and CPAT testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the HCFR Department’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to the HCFR Department where the final decisions are made.

Veterans’ Preference

Veterans’ preference is given to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans in accordance with Chapter 295, Florida Statutes. Veterans' Preference eligibility has changed. Effective July 1, 2007 Operation Enduring Freedom (Oct 7, 2001 - present) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Mar 19, 2003 - present) veterans will be eligible for preference, in addition to other eligible categories. See F.S. 1.01(14) for more information. Additionally, F.S. 295.101 has been repealed and eligibility in the State of Florida is now perpetual, and no longer a single entitlement. In order to receive preference, eligibility documentation is requested at time of application, but must be provided before closing date of job posting.
