Mission Statement

The mission of the County Engineering Office is to provide civil and facility engineering, design, study, project management, and various services for projects for the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), County departments, governmental agencies, and constitutional officers. Requirements by the Hernando County Development Department and Building Codes must be obtained by private Engineering or Architectural Firms/Companies. The Engineer's Office provides a wide variety of services to these agencies, which include: facilities engineering, facilities design, facilities construction inspection and monitoring, civil engineering designs and specifications, construction inspection, regulatory agency permitting, traffic engineering, technical research, drainage design, limited surveying activities, grant coordination, and special project management.

Goals

  • Effectively administer the County Engineer's projects through management planning, organizing, leading, and interfacing with the County Administrator and department directors to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is provided.

  • Ensure a quality infrastructure through development of stringent standards and project management.

  • Complete the project list in FY 2002/2003 Road Capital Improvement Plan.

  • Continued implantation and development of the five-year Stormwater Master Plan.

  • Analyze, coordinate, design and build the traffic signal projects approved in the current budget.

  • Complete the Florida Dept. of transportation Enhancement Fund Projects for FY 2002/2003.

  • Complete the Public Works drainage and guardrail projects.

  • Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Hernando County Residential Traffic Policy.

Objectives

  • Verbally respond to residential Traffic Control Policy relevant concerns within two working days.

  • Initiate recommended Residential Traffic Control Policy actions within three months of concern notification.

  • Hold weekly Engineering Office staff meetings based on a documented agenda that effectively follows up on outstanding issues.

  • Hold biweekly project status update meetings with the County Administrator, or his designee, to ensure positive flow of information ideas and direction on engineering issues.

    • Manage & maintain permanent records of survey and engineering associated with County projects

    • Develop, administer and manage contractual agreements with outside consultants and contractors

    • Contract review (oversees construction contracts)

    • Procuring professional consultant services

    • Construction cost estimates

    • Preparation of specification and bid documents

  • Maintains all accident records

  • Regulatory Agency Permitting

    • Permitting

    • F.D.O.T. & S.W.F.W.M.D. coordination / permitting

  • School Safety Programs / School Beacons

  • Technical Research

    • Material testing & construction staking

    • Five Year Transportation Plan

    • Procure grant funding from Federal & State sources

    • Prepare graphical presentations with the CAD system for county departments
